Functions and Ranges: GMAT, GRE Quant Problem

GMAT, GRE Functions and Graphing Question

GMAT, GRE, QUANT, quantitative, math, test prep, functions

In the function above, if f(k) = 2, then which one of the following could be a value of k?

(A) –1
(B) 0
(C) 0.5
(D) 2.5
(E) 4

f(k)=2
On the graph, that would mean the x is k and the y is2

In the first quadrant when y = 2 the value for x could be from anywhere from roughly 1.75 to 3.5.

None of the answer choices are ranges but D is within our range. And since the question asks what value “could be” k, that must be the answer.

D.
